Hyenas are not total scavengers; they will kill for themselves if there are fewer larger predators such as Lions and Leopards in their territory.

The wounds look bad, but the Hippo has natural antibiotics in their skin, preventing the wounds from festering in the humid and wet conditions of their habitat.
